The Photographs
Hand-printed darkroom photographs from film negatives.
Sizes from small to giant.
Ready for hanging with attached specially coated picture wire, which will not leave marks on the wall. The custom large sizes have French cleats which securely hang these heavy photographs.
I frame the photographs myself. Every photograph is drymounted and matted with four-ply 100% cotton museum board that I cut individually.
All of my photographs are inclusive limited editions, meaning that the edition number, i.e. 75 or 250, is for all sizes combined. I do not number the editions by photograph size, and I do not offer any unnumbered photographs. Each photograph is signed, numbered and dated on front of mat in pencil. Once the last photograph of that edition sells no more are printed and the edition is permanently closed.
A certificate of authenticity is attached to the back of each photograph.
Frames are carefully selected by me and are of the highest quality. Click to see examples of the frames
The process
I use film cameras ranging from medium format all the way up to an 8x16” ultra large format camera. I process and print all the photographs myself in my analog darkroom.
The Illuminated series, which includes some of the slave dwellings and landscapes are black and white silver gelatin photographs that are handpainted with various solutions including sepia toner, which lightens or darkens just the selected area. This method is a classic darkroom technique called selective toning.
10% of each animal sanctuary photograph sale is donated directly back to that sanctuary. 10% of each slave dwelling photograph is donated to The Slave Dwelling Project
